Portrait of Bledar
People assume you either keep your identity or you become Canadian. I refuse to choose. I am both, fully.

I grew up in Pristina speaking Albanian and English, and I never imagined my life would depend on French. Montreal changed that. To work, to belong, to make friends, I had to learn a third language in my thirties.

The first year I made mistakes constantly. But Quebecers respected the effort, and the Albanian community in Montreal — smaller than Toronto but tight — helped me find my footing and my first customers.

Today I run a small renovation company. My kids will grow up trilingual, celebrating Flag Day in November and Saint-Jean-Baptiste in June. That mix is not a contradiction to me. It is exactly who we are becoming.
